Pediment

The most decorative element of the window is a window cornice. Because of the architectural Classicising form (in most cases) we can apply to it the name pediment.

In the early nineteenth century window cornices did not have any decorations, they did not differ from vertical profiles that covered frames, creating with them a monotonous rectangular window band.

Presented pediments size relate to a window / door opening of 120 cm.
Each of the decorative elements is produced under a specific size of the window or door, so the size will change if the window size will be different than in our example.

* the sizes of pediments are customised to individual customer's designs.

Windows are not only elements of the building that allow the separation of the interior from the outside world and allow for a smooth transition between them. Windows have always been treated as ornaments and decorations. For this reason, they are sometimes supplemented with additional elements. These are i.a. pediments, a type of stucco dedicated to decorate the window. They come in different variants. They are both simple and more decorative. Pediments also differ in thickness. These decorative elements are factory-finished and cut to the required size.

What are pediments?

A pediment is a window cornice. It is the most decorative element of the window finish. It is a detail that gives the facade of the building majesty and an elegant appearance. Pediments are made of highly hardened polystyrene EPS 100, which is both light and highly resistant to mechanical damage. To give the surface even better properties, the polystyrene is secured with a layer of polymer-acrylic resins with an admixture of quartz aggregate. As a result, window pediments are fully resistant to the adverse effects of external factors, such as moisture, high or low temperature and UV radiation.

The architectural pediment is also very easy to install. We make pediments to size, so you can be sure that they will perfectly match a specific window. After installation, they should be covered with a dedicated stucco paint (eg. STO Dryonic) to match the style and color of the facade.

Decorative pediments in different architectural styles

Pediments remind us of the courtly style. It is this style that characterizes the exterior stucco. In such architecture, highly decorative window pediments look best. They can be those with many grooves, as well as with a carved finish, e.g. with a floral motif. Contemporary stucco, however, also appears in a more minimalist and simpler form, which can be associated with modernist architecture.
